On The Road is an independent animation project by Slovak visual artist Lucia Černeková and musician and composer Peter Luha.
The project grew from a shared desire to experience new places from another perspective — through their cultures, people, everyday rhythms, images and sounds. Each film is created in direct response to a particular country or place and becomes a subjective, poetic world rather than a conventional document.
Animation and short film allow the two artists to unite visual art and music in a single form. Drawing, painting, photography, video, collected objects, field recordings, stop motion, hand-made animation, digital composition, original music and sound are developed together throughout the process.
The work often begins with collecting photographs, videos, environmental sounds, fragments of printed material and visually striking objects. From these materials, the artists gradually discover the film’s central visual and emotional line, combining hand-made and digital methods until image and sound form one complete work.
The films reflect an individual view of the world and the emotional experience of a generation: everyday life, intimacy, love, friendship, beauty and joy appear alongside ecological anxiety, violence, conflict, social pressure and the wider instability of the contemporary world.
The continuing series
The project currently includes Spain , Der Turm , Brussels , Finlandia and Time Bridge . A new film is being developed during the artists’ 2026 residency in Paris.
